How Do We Manufacture

  • Surface Treatment and Annealing

    Raw Material Acceptance and Surface Treatment

    The raw materials are supplied from domestic and foreign steel manufacturers with ISO 9001 and/or ISO TS 16949 certificate and transferred to the Norm ERP system via the EDI system and becomes available in the system after the raw material Incoming Material Control process is completed.

    Raw material Incoming Material Control is randomly examined for compatibility to the Norm's unique technical specification. In these examinations, besides the controls of the chemical analyzes, the dimensional, visual and mechanical properties of the raw material are also checked.

    Raw materials Incoming Material Control of which is completed and which are approved to be usable are subjected to annealing + surface treatment or direct surface treatment according to the process sequence.

    Surface treatment is a mandatory application prior to the cold forming process and it is essentially a temporary zinc phosphate coating process.

    Annealing

    In Norm Cıvata, the raw materials are exposed to stress relieving or spheroidising annealing in a coil shape. Not all raw materials are annealed and the type of annealing to be applied is determined according to the degree of cold forming difficulty of the final product.

    While the stress relieving annealing is 15ton/charge capacity, the normalization annealing can increase up to 40ton/charge. Annealings are fully automatic and programs can be selected according to the raw material group.

  • Cold Forming

    With surface treated raw materials, bolts, nuts and special parts are manufactured in multi-station bolt and nut machines which manufacture with cold forming method. Machine speeds vary according to part geometry, and can reach up to 200 units/min speeds. Our bolt factory can manufacture in diameters from M5 to M24.

     
  • Secondary Processes

    In the secondary processes unit, additional applications such as washer attachment to bolts, threading the offsets, nut and washer attachment with automatization are carried out.

    Secondary processes run based on lots and raw material and process details can be accessed from our lot numbers and all of our machines can be monitored online with the data automation program.

     

     

     

  • Heat Treatments

    Stress Relief and Spheroidising Annealing

    In Norm Cıvata, the raw materials are subjected to stress relieving or spheroidising annealing in a coil shape (prior to cold forming). Not all raw materials are annealed and the type of annealing to be applied is determined according to the degree of cold forming difficulty of the final product.

    While the stress relieving annealing is 15ton/charge capacity, the normalization annealing can increase up to 40ton/charge. Annealings are fully automatic and programs can be selected according to the raw material group. Stress relief can be done up to 700 oC and in spheroidising annealing, temperature can be increased to 900 oC when necessary.

     

     

    Stabilization (Quenching + Tempering)

    We use our heat treatment furnaces operating 24/7 continuously in order to bring the semi-finished products for which cold forming has been completed into their final mechanical properties. All products reach quality 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 in this process by exposing the steel to austenite phase by heating in a controlled atmosphere and suddenly cooling in oil.

    All parameters are automatically controlled and stored in our furnaces which have an average capacity of 1,200 kg/hour. With lot traceability, it is possible to go in the detail of raw material.

     

    Normalization

    Unlike the mechanical properties specified in ISO 898-1 and 2, it is applied to remove internal stresses that come from cold forming in some products such as rivet nuts, bushings and rivets and that cause locally different hardness in the products and it can be increased up to a capacity of 250 kg/h. Also, since annealing is performed in a controlled atmosphere, no high temperature scaling occurs and the final surface quality is at a level that can be used without additional protection.

    In all our heat treatment processes, we apply CQI-9, which is one of the automotive requirements and we share with the key industry and their tier-1 suppliers annually.

  • Coating

    Coating operations are carried out by Uysal Makina that is within Norm Group. 

    Zinc coatings types used to protect metal surfaces from corrosion or to give them decorative and engineering properties; electrolytic nickel coatings that provide smooth surface, superior cosmetic appearance, high heat resistance, high corrosion resistance with top lacquers applied which do not contain Cr+6, Cr (VI); and Cr (III) free döerken coating types that are resistant to corrosion and organic solvents for extended periods for up to 180°C with a barrier effect through zinc and aluminum layers are available.

  • Sorting

    100% sorting is possible both by hand and automatic machines. Depending on the shape and sizes some parts can only be manually sorted. Certain dimensions and surface deformations(cracks, big damages, form defects etc.) can be sorted on automatic machines. Manual and machines sortings have some acceptible PPM ratios according to ISO 16426.

  • Packaging

    Pallets are wrapped with "stretch" film and bandaged with plastic strips. In order to ensure retrospective traceability, the label information on the boxes indicates:

    • Product type
    • Product standard
    • Product quality
    • Product lot number
    • Coating type
    • Quantity
    • Date of packaging

    On the labels on the pallet;

    • Customer's name
    • Customer order number
    • Gross weight
    • Net weight
    • Type of product in the pallet, the lot number and quantity

    information are available.
